Isle of Skye, IV49 9BG
Offers over £100,000
Crofting tenancy with superb loch and mountain views. The nearby village of Broadford offers a wide range of local amenities. There is an old static caravan with electrical connection on site.
Extending to approximately 11.025Ha (27.24 acres), this crofting tenancy is set on the outskirts of the village of Elgol and appreciates stunning views across Loch Slapin to the Knoydart peninsula and the islands of Eigg and Rum. The croft is registered in the Register of Crofts (Register no. I3959) and there are grazing rights on the Elgol Glasnakille Common Grazings. There is a static caravan on site (not liveable), that has a disconnected electricity supply. There are also two stone ruins, further into the croft land and there is peat on the lower area of the croft. It should be noted that the transfer of the tenancy is subject to the consent of the Crofting Commission. The area is denoted in pink on the plan.
Location
Elgol is a small village on the shores of Loch Scavaig located towards the end of the Strathaird peninsula. Elgol Bay is located a short distance along from the Croft and there is a local bistro/restaurant. Broadford is some 13 miles away and has a supermarket, petrol station and various shops and eateries. Primary school children would attend Broadford Primary and secondary pupils would attend Portree High School, approximately 38 miles away. Portree also has a good selection of shops, supermarkets, hotels, eateries and post office etc. There is also a swimming pool and harbour in the town and the Isle of Skye Company Visitor Centre provides a cinema, wellness centre and pizzeria. Kyle of Lochalsh is some 22 miles distant from the croft, with Inverness, the capital of the Highlands approximately 100 miles away.
Directions
From Inverness take the A82 road going towards Fort William. At Invermoriston turn right on to the A887 road continuing on the A87 road to Kyle of Lochalsh. Cross the road bridge to Skye, continuing on the A87 towards Broadford, passing a Co-op supermarket and Asda Express on the right hand side. Take the second left after the supermarket onto the B8038, which is signposted for Elgol. Continue along the single track road, passing a cemetery with a stone ruin on the right and veering right a short distance later signposted for Elgol and Torrin, remaining on the B8083. Follow the road along passing the purple Tea Room on the left. Continue straight passing the turn off for Drinan (do not take this turning) and continue on the road to Elgol for approximately 1 mile. The croft is located to the right a short distance after a farm building on the left. There is a metal gate with a static caravan behind and the croft is clearly sign posted. The croft can be accessed from this gate, but it is quite a steep incline. If you go past this and up the next driveway on the right, the croft is straight ahead (see plan)
Services
The static caravan has an electricity supply which we understand to be sufficient for a house, though it is not currently connected. There is a spring located close to the derelict outbuilding, and the caravan, when in use, used water from the spring. We are advised that the mains water supply now runs along the main road.
